The Course Structure
Welcome back to the course, we are moving to the next stage of the Course Creation where we will Work on Writing Actual Course Content.
In this lesson we discuss the course structure so that you will know how to organize your content into Modules and Lessons, breaking it down into chapters and subchapters, and add what additional assets are necessary for an effective learning process.
General Course Structure
Course structure is like a tree that has a trunk and branches and even fruits.
Here you see the illustration.

The Course is divided into Modules. Each module includes Lessons related to it. Each lesson is a separate video Lesson that has Chapters and Might have Subchapters.
The trunk is our general COURSE IDEA,
The main big branches are the MODULES that may correspond to the main points of our Course Concept,
You may see that the Module is not included in the content type. It is because the Module is not content on itself, it is a Structure element that will divide our Lessons into separate parts when we publish it to the Website. So in our course document, there will be no text under the Module, only the Lessons.
The smaller branches are the LESSONS
And then you can see CHAPTERS AND SUBCHAPTERS
This is a general structure! It is straightforward, I think. In the practical tasks, you will see how to break down information into a general structure.
Elements for Effective Learning
Effectiveness is what makes your course stand out.
There is a lot of information in the world. There is no lack of information. So making a course about things that are already available out there is counterproductive. You need to ensure that your course is effective. That is why we need to use the Elements that will make your course effective.
You can see that the course Starts with an Introduction and ends with a Conclusion. You also may have noticed that there are Practical tasks and Results.
What is the role of each of those elements in the learning process? We will talk about in separate videos.
Types of Content
When you look at the course structure, you can see that the several content types are on the same level.
We can see:
- Introduction
- Theoretical material
- Practical tasks
- Conclusion
This is the course content.
Each Content will become a Separate Video. That is why we will call it all lessons. But not every lesson carries information about the course topic, some content types are there to organize the learning process like an introduction or even to guide the student into the next level or course.
Here I have a diagram showing the difference in these content types.

In the following we will cover in details each of the content types.
